Archer Project Enterprises is the trading subsidiary of The Archer Project,
a charity in Sheffield helping homeless and vulnerable people change their
lives for the better. Through Archer Project Enterprises we employ people
who have experienced homelessness and overcome similar adversities in a
supported environment. We believe there is hope and a way forward for
every person. We give opportunities for vulnerable people to learn new skills,
build confidence, and move forward towards fulfilling lives.
Through ‘Printed by Us’, our ethical clothing and artwork brand, we run
workshops to teach the people we employ the craft of hand screen printing.
We print small batches of our unique products designed by some the finest
independent creatives which we then sell online, at events and through our
retail unit in Orchard Square. We also deliver commercial cleaning services
to a range of local partners through our ‘Just Clean’ social enterprise.

Retail Supervisor with Printed By Us
Help shape the future of a growing social enterprise
Printed By Us is more than a shop. We are a social enterprise creating opportunities for people facing barriers to employment through meaningful work, skill development and creativity.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and commercially minded Retail Supervisor to join us on a three-month fixed-term contract to support the next stage of growth for our retail operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, creating engaging retail spaces and identifying products that customers love. You'll play a key role in developing our supported employees, strengthening our retail offer and helping us explore how Printed By Us can evolve into a bigger, more sustainable retail destination.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role that combines retail supervision, staff development, visual merchandising and product sourcing. Fixed term 3 month contract with potential to extend.
You will:
- Lead the day-to-day running of our retail space.
- Train supported employees to develop confidence, independence and transferable workplace skills.
- Create attractive and commercially effective visual merchandising displays.
- Refresh shop layouts and product presentation to enhance the customer experience.
- Research, source and introduce new products that complement our existing Printed By Us range.
- Monitor sales trends and customer feedback to inform purchasing decisions.
- Support the development of ideas that will help create a more sustainable and diverse retail offer.
- Contribute to planning for the future growth and expansion of the business.
About you:
- An experienced retail professional with strong customer service skills.
- Creative and confident in visual merchandising and product presentation.
- Passionate about helping people develop new skills and reach their potential.
- Commercially aware and able to identify opportunities to increase sales and customer engagement.
- Organised, proactive and comfortable working independently.

Essential
- Experience working in a retail environment.
- Experience supporting, training or supervising staff.
- Strong visual merchandising and product presentation skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of retail sales.
Desirable
- Experience working within a social enterprise, charity or supported employment setting.
- Experience developing new retail concepts or product ranges.
- Commitment to inclusion, social enterprise and supported employment.
- Knowledge of Shopify or other retail systems.
- Experience supporting people facing barriers to employment.
Key Contractual Terms:
What We Offer
- £13.63 - £14.04 per hour – 16-20 hours a week (10am – 2pm Wednesday – Sunday) – some flexible on working days and hours
- Fixed term 3 month contract
- Appointment subject to an enhanced DBS check

Archer Project Enterprises - Volunteer Retail Assistant

Then we’re the social enterprise for you!
You will play an important part in helping to further develop and establish Archer Project Enterprises, by acting as an ambassador of the Printed By Us brand. The post holder will have the chance to work as part of a friendly team, meet people from all walks of life and make new friends. This position would also provide the successful candidate with the time to develop or refine their confidence, interpersonal skills, lateral thinking, and retail experience, as well as with the opportunity to give something back to their community. No qualifications or volunteering experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador for the Printed By Us brand and wider Archer Project Enterprises
- Provide a warm, welcoming customer experience in the retail unit
- Support the day-to-day operations of the shop, including basic sales and stock handling
- Maintain a tidy, presentable shop environment
- Work independently during shifts while staying aligned with team values and expectations
- Represent the organisation’s mission to promote sustainable, ethical products and support individuals moving on from homelessness
Essential Criteria
- Available for up to 4 hours per week
- Comfortable with lone working in a retail setting
- Friendly, approachable, and able to interact with people from all walks of life
- Enthusiastic about contributing to a mission supporting individuals with lived experience of homelessness
Desirable Criteria
- An interest in gaining experience in retail or social enterprise environments
- A desire to build confidence, interpersonal skills, or customer service abilities
- Alignment with the values of social justice, sustainability, and inclusion
Key Contractual Terms
- Salary scale: Unpaid role
- Contract type: Part-time, permanent ongoing basis
- Work pattern: Up to 4 hours per week, Monday to Sunday.
Shifts are split into AM & PM blocks: 9:50am - 1:50pm & 1:40pm - 5:40pm. - Location: Printed By Us retail unit, currently in Orchard Square, Sheffield City Centre.
