We are an award-winning social enterprise supporting vulnerable adults to live more fulfilling lives. All of our designs are hand-printed in Sheffield as part of a supported employment programme for people affected by homelessness and other complex circumstances. As a social enterprise, we’re motivated by our desire to make the world an easier place for someone going through hard times. This is why all of the profits from our prints go back into the enterprise, enabling us to provide training and development opportunities for our team.
On top of this, we’re passionate about all things sustainable and we strive to be eco-friendly and climate-neutral in all of the prints that we make. Many large fashion companies claim to be as ethical as possible, but changes in spending habits coupled with the rise of fast fashion have created a clothing industry more unethical and less environmentally conscious than ever before. We live in an era of hyper-consumption, which isn’t particularly helpful in the middle of a climate crisis. Clothing production has doubled from 2000 to 2014 and the average consumer bought 60 per cent more clothing in 2014 than in 2000 but kept each garment half as long! Fashion companies deliberately make clothes that won’t last very long, encouraging people to buy more and more often, haphazardly trying to keep up with rapidly changing trends. However, our clothing is not only more ethical, but it will also last longer and be more special than the mass-produced and expensive clothing pushed on you by high-end brands. This is why we ensure that all of our custom printed garments have a completely ethical supply chain. Let me take you through it!
Our Clothing’s Ethical Journey
Firstly, most of our clothing is made from a mix of 100% organic cotton grown on a GOTS certified organic cotton farm in India with a blend of organic cotton cuttings and locally recycled plastic bottles. The rest of our clothing is made from 100% organic cotton. Completely free from harmful chemicals and pesticides, our cotton is also grown using less water, which is kinder for our planet, and people 😊
Then the cotton is transported to a wind-powered factory and is produced exclusively by our supplier Continental Clothing according to Fair Wear Foundation standards. This is another way that we try to support our environment. By using green renewable energy from low impact raw materials, we are proud to have a 90% reduced carbon footprint production, making us earth positive.
After this, the clothing is transported to the UK where our team in Sheffield will print your chosen design. Our printing crew is made up of a variety of different people from complex backgrounds, many of whom have experienced homelessness. The team all receive at least a 'real living wage' of £9.50 per hour for the work they do and receive ongoing support for personal and professional development.
Once your custom design has been printed onto your chosen garment, all that’s left to do is package and send your order. We package all of our prints using a 100% Recycled backing card and the packaging sleeves we use are made in the UK and are fully Biodegradable.
All of our surplus income is then reinvested back into developing the project so we can support more vulnerable adults and help them to lead fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
