Danielle started working for Printed by Us right at its inception as Just Works in 2017. In this blog is a conversation between her and Chris, all about her journey and reflection on key moments through her recovery.

I was one of the first people to start at Just Works, one of the initial four people that started screen-printing as a wellbeing activity. It then developed from holistic activities into incorporating wellbeing with a supported professional environment, and then our Printed by Us retail unit was created to offer me and my team paid opportunities that helped us build confidence. I began working for the company regularly when Emily (our retail manager) began working here shortly after the first lockdown.

Way before having the stability to work on my professional development, I found Archer Project by going to Sheffield City Council and declaring myself homeless. I was five months pregnant with nowhere to go and I needed help. They said they couldn't help me, but that I should go to Archer Project. So I waddled down. In the end, the council did not help me until I became pregnant for the second time. Archer Project not only helped me with practical things that I needed, like breakfast, vitamins and showers, they also made sure I had milk for the baby and access to maternity clothing as I grew. They helped me create a routine and made sure I took my vitamins, had somewhere to be everyday, and had people to talk to and support me.

I originally started helping with the market stalls, on Tudor square, I also did some social media work for Printed by Us. My professional development naturally evolved when I began working full time in the shop. I was a retail assistant from then until I was finally ready to move on.

There have been countless amazing memories from being at Printed by Us, some that stick in my mind include our wellbeing programme activities such as days out bowling and craft workshops. I loved getting to know my colleagues and the team building aspect.

Today, I am part of the night security team for Orchard Square, where the Printed by Us shop is. Archer project helped me with having the confidence to apply for my first and then second badge. I am neurodivergent & dyslexic, and they helped me through the process of form filling (which I find stressful) but mainly they helped me believe in myself, I did not have a lot of confidence and struggled with negative self-image. It was with the help of Archer Project & Printed by Us I realised I can do anything I set my mind to. Their kind, gentle encouragement was tailored to me; I sometimes need a friendly but gentle shove in the right direction!

My goals for the future are to become fitter and healthier, and to develop myself in my new security role even further. I'd also love to fulfil a lifelong dream to travel and explore and with this in mind I'd love to visit some friends in America.

In terms of my career aspirations,  I'd love to obtain my paramedics licence and my scissor lift qualification. I have completed several first aid courses and I'd love to continue building upon that.
