Ever wondered what goes into making one of our t-shirts? Not just the design, but the journey, from the cotton fields to your screen-printed tee, and everything in between.
We thought it was about time we showed you just how much care, thought, and positive change goes into every single garment. Spoiler alert: it’s a lot.
🧵 It All Starts in a Cotton Field
Our t-shirts begin their life on a GOTS-certified organic cotton farm in India. That means:
- No harmful pesticides
- No GMOs
- Less water used
- Healthy soil
- And healthier working conditions for the farmers too
The cotton is hand-picked (not machine-stripped), which is better for both the fibres and the people doing the picking.
We only use 100% certified organic cotton, and everything is traceable from seed to stitch. No greenwashing here!
⚡ Made in a Wind-Powered Factory
Once picked and spun, the cotton heads to a wind and solar-powered factory. Renewable energy only!
At this stage:
- The fabric is knitted in-house and dyed using GOTS-approved chemicals in a closed-loop system, which means the water is recycled and reused with zero discharge.
- All this happens in a Fair Wear Foundation-approved factory, which is regularly audited to ensure workers are paid fairly and treated with dignity.
Oh, and the carbon footprint? Around 90% lower than conventional clothing. One t-shirt saves 7kg of CO₂e compared to a standard one. That’s the weight of a small dog.
✋ Screen Printed by Hand in Sheffield
Back in the UK, our tees land in our Orchard Square workshop in Sheffield, where they’re screen printed by hand using water-based, eco-friendly PERMASET inks. These inks are:
- Vegan, non-toxic, and free from nasty stuff like lead or heavy metals
- Safe enough to print on baby clothes (yep, really)
- Made by Colormaker Industries, a solar-powered Aussie manufacturer that gives back to disadvantaged communities
Because we print by hand, we use a lot less machinery and energy. It’s a mindful process that is slower, more thoughtful, and therapeutic (for both the printer and the planet).
And the best part? Every tee is printed by someone who’s in recovery from homelessness or adversities. We pay the Real Living Wage, and every purchase helps fund paid work, skill-building, and confidence through our supported employment programme.
🎨 Designed with Heart, Worn with Purpose
Each design is created by an independent artist, carefully selected for both style and message.
And finally, it ends with you.
When you wear one of our t-shirts, you’re wearing a garment that’s:
- Ethically made
- Organically grown
- Printed with eco inks
- Supporting someone’s journey out of hardship
- And crafted with care, right here in Sheffield
You’re making a choice that supports slow fashion, independent makers, and a social enterprise model that puts people and planet first.
